It is a funny thing, isn't it? We spend so much time looking for the donkey while we are already sitting on its back. This is the peculiar state of the human condition—a constant, restless searching for something that has never been absent. We hear about the need to ground ourselves, to find stability, and perhaps we turn to something like **root chakra meditation** to feel more secure in our existence. If the body-mind feels anxious or scattered, sitting in silence can certainly bring a sense of comfort. It can harmonize the nervous system and make the daily dance of life a bit more fluid. But let’s be very clear: no amount of grounding will ever lead you to enlightenment, because enlightenment is not a place you can go. There is a common misunderstanding that we are separate fragments of the absolute, wandering through time, trying to find our way back to a source. We treat our practices like medicines or tools for improvement. We think, "If I balance my energy, if I clear the pollutants from my mind, then I will finally reach that state of liberation." But who is the one trying to reach it? When we look closely at this "I," this separate self, we find it isn't a solid entity at all. It is a function, a way the body-mind relates to its environment. It’s a set of glasses we’ve forgotten we’re wearing. Everything we see is colored by these lenses, yet we rarely stop to look at the lenses themselves. In the traditions of the past, many have spent years in rigorous training, believing they were sradicating the impurities of the mind to become something "holy" or "awakened." They might say they achieved a state of freedom after decades of effort. But would that freedom not have been there anyway? The absolute doesn't care if you are meditating or if you are stuck in a traffic jam. Both are perfect expressions of what is. The wave is always the ocean, whether it is a crashing storm or a still pool. The wave doesn't need to "practice" being water. It already is water. The idea that we must do something to become what we already are is the ultimate cosmic joke. When we talk about **root chakra meditation**, we are talking about the horizontal dimension of life. This is the realm of self-improvement, of taking care of the body-mind, of learning to be more "present" so we can function better. There is nothing wrong with this. If you are hungry, you eat. If the mind is noisy, you might sit in silence to find some quiet. But this is just the body-mind taking its own measurements to feel better. It has nothing to do with the vertical dimension of absolute freedom. That freedom is not in time. It is not something that happens after ten years of practice or at the end of a long journey. It is here, now, regardless of whether you are happy, sad, grounded, or completely lost in thought. Think of an observation. Usually, we divide it: there is "me" the observer, and there is the "object" being observed.
