The Illusion of Chakra Healing and the End of the Seeker
Explore why chakra healing isn't a path to enlightenment. Discover the radical truth that there is nowhere to go and nothing to fix in this aware presence.
The world is a loud, aggressive place, a constant bombardment of demands and overstimulation that leaves the body-mind feeling frayed and exposed. We find ourselves masking, pretending to be someone we aren't just to navigate the social friction of everyday life. In this state of exhaustion, the separate self begins to look for an exit, a way to mend the perceived brokenness. This is where the concept of chakra healing usually enters the frame, presented as a spiritual ladder to climb or a biological puzzle to solve. We are told that if we just align these internal wheels of energy, we will finally achieve a state of grace or reach a destination called enlightenment. But who is it that is trying to heal? And where exactly do we think we are going? When we look at the physiology of the body-mind, we can discuss the subtle centers like the mula chakra, located at the very base of our physical manifestation. It is the root of vitality, the anchor point where the absolute expresses itself through this specific form. We might hear stories of great teachers whose energy centers began to flicker as the body-mind approached its end, signaling that the manifestation was nearly over. They might have urged others to ask their questions quickly while the presence was still anchored in this level of reality. This is interesting, perhaps even beautiful in a clinical sense, but it is not a map to a treasure. The mula chakra is simply part of the equipment. If it flickers or if it flows, it is just what is happening. To turn the maintenance of these centers into a spiritual goal is to miss the fact that the ocean does not need to polish its waves to be the ocean. Chakra healing may indeed bring a sense of comfort. It might calm the nervous system or provide a momentary reprieve from the social anxiety that plagues the separate self. There is nothing wrong with feeling better. If the body-mind feels more relaxed after a practice, that is simply a temporary state appearing within the totality. However, it is a mistake to believe that this comfort is a sign of spiritual progress. There is no progress because there is no distance between you and the absolute. The idea that you must "clear" a path through your energy centers to reach the truth is like a shadow trying to clean the floor so it can finally earn the right to exist. You already are the aware presence in which the chakras, the body, and the entire world appear. The separate self loves a project. It loves the idea of a journey because a journey implies that the "me" has something to do, a way to improve, and a future where it will finally be "whole." But look closely at this moment. Is there anything missing right now? The noise of the world, the pressure to interact, the masking—all of these are appearances on the screen. The screen itself is never touched by the film. Whether the movie is a tragedy of blocked energy or a triumph of chakra healing, the screen remains exactly as it was.
